Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

Meredith says...
I was listening to an interview of one of my good friends, Debbie Phillips, as she focused on the seven mistakes that keep someone from being "A Woman on Fire." The one that jumped out at me applies to males and females alike: the tendency to compare ourselves to others...

Campbell River: Wellness Capital of the World

Check out this new site that I'm working on: http://bewellcr.blogspot.com/

"According to the Canadian Mental Health Association,

  • 20% of Canadians will experience mental illness in their lifetime;
  • 25% of all deaths for 15-24 year olds was a result of suicide;
  • And in 1998, the latest figures I could get, mental illness was estimated to cost $15 billion in health care costs and loss of productivity.
There is a desperate need within our society to work on making people well as a whole. And we have a unique opportunity to do something about it! ..."

Information for those who want to use Public Domain Works

Have you considered repackaging works that are classified as "public domain"?  For example, you might consider taking the novel David Copperfield, which might be considered a public domain work, designing a new cover and then printing and selling the book.

But what qualifies as "public domain"?

Public Domain Sherpa says, "Since there’s no directory or list of public domain works that you can consult ... you must gather some facts about a work before you can figure out if it’s in the public domain. But you can figure it out..."

Have you chosen your web page's target market wisely?

As the last Grail Knight reminds Indiana Jones as he looks for the true Holy Grail -- "But choose wisely, for while the true Grail will bring you life, the false Grail will take it from you."

I was just reading World Internet Usage Stats at http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm and realized that I may have chosen poorly when it comes to the primary language of my posts.

As of today, May 2, 2011, Africa has a 10 year growth rate of over 2000%, with a market penetration of only 10%, and the Middle East has a 10 year growth rate of 1800%, with a market penetration of %30.

Conversely, North America has a 10 year growth rate of a paltry %150, with a market penetration of 77%.

As well, it may be worthwhile to note that there are estimated 825,000,000 (825 million) users in Asia and 475 million users in Europe compared to 270 million in North America.

If you wish to drink from the Holy Internet Grail, perhaps it's time to rethink who you have chosen to write to?

Daybreak Rotary Wine Fest -- Call for Sponsors!

Daybreak Rotary Presents Wine and Blues Fest

When: Saturday, June 11, 2011, 7pm - 9:30pm
Where: Campbell River Maritime Heritage Center
What: Wine, Wine, Wine, Blues, and Appys!

Daybreak Rotary is looking for sponsors, small and large.

Why sponsor a Rotary event?

In a nutshell, sponsors give to Rotary not so much for the sales ability of the advertising but to support an organization that truly delivers to and cares for the community in which it operates. We are the largest service organization in the world with the largest amount of members supporting the cause.

More specifically:
  1. Sponsorship donations go to helping cover the costs of putting the event (i.e. - musician, decorations, tickets, printing programs, etc.) on and what is leftover goes into our Community Service account to support local events that Rotary funds and supports throughout the year.
  2. On the domestic front, Rotary provides funding to support local community initiatives such as the Seawalk, children's playgrounds, food bank, fixtures for old age homes, building and contents for the Head Injury Society, parks and recreation, hospital equipment, meals for single parents, student scholarships and many more initiatives that I am sure you will partake in as you become more familiar with the committees that we have. On the international front...the eradication of polio worldwide, clean water and sanitation, literacy, self sustaining micro credit support, public health, etc...check out the Rotary International site for a complete inventory of all the thousands of projects that Rotary is involved.  See CR Daybreak Rotary website for local projects.
  3. Rotary is well known throughout our community as an organization that delivers with virtually no administrative overhead. You see our crests in every community on Vancouver Island be it parks, trails, playgrounds, pools. To support Rotary means that you want your funding to go the longest way possible to support local community initiatives. This Wine and Blues event will host approx 250 attendees and a variety of demographics from visitors to established businesses and professionals. All sponsor names are printed on our program which is handed out to all attendees.

(Thanks for that excellent explanation Jim Voth!)

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives...

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

I couldn't have put this better myself -- thanks Jen

A great marketing article from Jen de Tracey: http://www.liftstrategies.com/marketing-tips/do-you-want-my-business ...
"Roger Video needs to think differently about its approach. Video stores are folding because people can now borrow DVDs from their local library, order through Netflix or on demand through their cable provider. We live in a society where people do not want to have to work to get your business, nor should they want to.
How are you making it easy for your customers and prospects to pull out their wallet?"

Internet Riches Made Easy Video Training Program

On the One Minute Millionaire site (http://www.oneminutemillionaire.com), I found the following audio training package.

Internet Riches Made Easy Video Training Program

It's free to download and listen to -- you're just asked for your email address -- and has some really great tips for earning money online.  Bob Gatchel gives an overview of six "profit centers" that can be used to make money online:
  1. Affiliate programs (www.cj.com, www.clickbank.com, www.linkshare.com)
  2. ebay
  3. domain name flipping
  4. craigslist
  5. information marketing
  6. blogging for profits

The site does look a little bogus, but I've followed the links and actually downloaded the audio files, and I found them to be very useful.  And thus far, I haven't received any harassing emails :)

If you haven't heard of The One Minute Millionaire, by Robert G. Allen and Mark Victor Hansen, I would highly encourage buying a copy of the book.  It's one of the most inspirational books I've read.
