Join millions of people, including businesses and celebrities :-) who will be participating in Earth Hour this Saturday from 8:30-9:30pm.
But Greg, what's there to do without power?
- Get outdoors for an evening walk (if you're downtown you'll get to see all
the lights go out in the buildings);
- Play some games, enjoy dinner, or read a book illuminated by candle light;
- Hangout with friends and talk about how we can work together to be more sustainable;
- Play hide and seek in the dark;
- Who's up for camping.
For more information on Earth Hour and how you can show your support, please see the following websites:

CR Volunteer of the Year Nominee -- Wow I'm so happy!!!
So it's official -- I'm a nominee for the 2011 Volunteer of the Year award for Campbell River!! http://www.volunteercr.ca/
I am so happy and so honored for the nomination. :) It really has been my utmost pleasure to volunteer with CRMISA, Multicultural and Immigrant Services Association, and I would honestly never ask for anything more than the thanks I get for the small things I do for the ladies at the office.
For me, actually, this has been proof of the power of doing what you love because you love it. I love helping people, and I love being myself. CRMISA has not only accepted me for who I am, they have made me feel good about what I bring.
Thank you so much ladies (and Duane!).

WOO HOO! |
I did it! Today I gave my deposit to join the coach training program with Accomplishment Coaching!!
I really want to thank my coach Tracey Pitts for all of her support and encouragement. I also want to thank Janel Ball for getting the 'ball' rolling (sorry Janel :p)
And of course I must express my sincerest and deepest gratitude to my wife, Maria, for standing by side over the years. Without you, I never would have got to this point. I genuinely believe our life is going to be so much better for the program I am about to take!

A Fabulous Rotary Welcome!

Rotarians Support Great People doing Great Things
This week I was happy to congratulate Trevor McMonagle on his success with publishing a collection of poetry in a book entitled Words on the Water.
I went to school with his son Graham, and since I came in contact with the McMonagles, they've never ceased to amaze me with what they contribute to Campbell River.
Words on the Water is a collection of poems that were commissioned by professional poets over the past ten years for each annual Words on the Water event.
Best of luck to Trevor with the distribution of his book. http://www.wordsonthewater.ca/
Accepting discomfort, fear and doubt for what they are: a predictable, natural process.
In discussing my discomfort with asking for money for my services, Coach reminded me of a key point today: discomfort, fear and doubt are all natural processes that we experience as we challenge ourselves to spend more time in the realm of possibility.
You can view yourself as spending time in different states of being. There is the 'normal', 'comfortable' state, there is the 'possibility', 'exploring' state, and there is the transitional 'defense mechanism' state between the two. If we ever move between a comfortable state and a possibility state, we must pass through the defense mechanism state.
In other words, whenever we challenge ourselves by trying something different (even if we only explore the ideas in our heads), our mind's natural response is to be uncomfortable, perhaps even scared. I often fear the fear, so to speak, but today Coach reminded me that fear arises because I am moving between states. So if I feel fear, a) I must be moving to the realm of possiblity, which is a really cool and interesting state of mind to be in, or b) I must be moving to a state of comfort and normality. But no matter what, if I feel fear, something good is coming.
I hope that by looking at fear and discomfort in this way, I will accept the process, learn some tools to 'weather the storm', and enjoy the ride, because now I know that something good is at the end of the trip.
